I have spent the last thirty years working to strengthen cooperatives in Asia, Africa and Latin America. I know the value and values of coops. I also know that Amherst is a supportive area for coops, and I am excited to see Common Share taking off. Let’s work together to make our coop strong, resilient and a model of community in action.
I see our Co-op as a project that’s growing bigger than just one, little store in our corner of Amherst. We’re getting connected with other stores and farms and organizations that are creating a resilient food system across the whole region.
What really matters to me? Good health, family, friends, community, learning, kindness, cooperation, inclusivity, accessibility, justice, resilience, and service to others. That’s what Common Share Food Co-op is all about!
The health of a community is most accurately measured by the inclusiveness of its shared spaces. I look forward to the day when I can say to everyone, “I’ll see you at the co-op!”
Healthy food fuels our bodies and communities, as we honor our connections to the land and to each other.
It is a positive thing to do together….. nourish each other with good wholesome food and distancing ourselves a bit from agribusiness !
The Amherst Food Co-op will unite neighbors around healthy food, sustainability, and fair wages. I cannot wait until it opens!
We are excited to have a real Co-op in our area. I can picture ourselves picking up fresh local foods and being able to bring our own containers especially for things like bulk and cleaning products. It will be a nice addition to the local farms where we are already members.

Providing our community with easy access to culturally diverse, nutritious local foods while keeping a low carbon footprint for the earth, helping our farmers preserve our local farmlands, and ensuring job security, fair wages, and benefits to our workers.
Creating a positive exchange owned and governed by our members where we support the local Farmers, Artists, & Producers who create our resources and where we can all benefit from the value of recycling profits back into the people.
Cultivating a space for our community to celebrate diversity through food and the arts, nourish our bodies and souls, educate each other by sharing our knowledge and resources, and organize a sustainable thriving future for Amherst.
